Masala papad (the 2-minute viral classic)

  1. Place one papad flat in the basket and put the air fryer rack (or a small steel trivet) on top so it cannot lift into the fan.
  2. Air fry at 180 °C for 1–2 minutes until fully puffed and blistered.
  3. Top with finely chopped onion, tomato, coriander, chaat masala, red chilli and a squeeze of lemon. Serve immediately.

Safety note: never air fry papad, parchment or anything light without weighing it down.

Chilli cheese toast

Mix grated cheese with finely chopped green chilli, capsicum, onion and a pinch of oregano. Spread on buttered bread and air fry at 180 °C for 4–5 minutes until bubbly. Same idea, more toppings: air fryer bread pizza.

Crispy corn (restaurant-style)

  1. Boil 1 cup sweet corn kernels for 2 minutes, drain and pat completely dry.
  2. Toss with 1 tbsp cornflour, 1 tbsp rice flour, salt and pepper until every kernel is coated.
  3. Spread on parchment, spray with oil and air fry at 200 °C for 10–12 minutes, shaking every 4 minutes.
  4. Toss with chopped onion, green chilli, coriander, chaat masala and lemon juice.

Paneer popcorn

  1. Cut 200 g paneer into 1.5 cm cubes. Season with salt, red chilli and garam masala.
  2. Dip in a thick cornflour-and-water slurry, then roll in breadcrumbs.
  3. Spray with oil and air fry at 190 °C for 8–10 minutes, turning once, until golden.

More protein-packed ideas: paneer high-protein snacks and paneer pakoda.

Smashed masala aloo

  1. Boil 10–12 baby potatoes until just tender. Cool slightly, then press each one flat with the base of a glass.
  2. Brush with 1 tbsp oil mixed with chilli, garlic, chaat masala and salt.
  3. Air fry at 200 °C for 15–18 minutes until the edges are deeply crisp.

Prefer classic potato? Try potato wedges or French fries.

Egg-in-a-hole toast

Press a hole in the centre of a slice of buttered bread. Place it on parchment in the basket, crack an egg into the hole, season with salt and pepper, and air fry at 180 °C for 6–8 minutes, depending on how runny you like the yolk.

Shooting your own air fryer Reel or Short

Making your own version for social media? Five things that make air fryer clips work:

  1. Film vertically (9:16) with the basket shot from directly above.
  2. Open on the finished food, then show the method. Viewers decide in the first two seconds.
  3. Capture the sound: the shake of the basket and the first crunchy bite.
  4. Put the setting on screen as a text overlay, for example “180 °C · 5 min”.
  5. Use natural light near a window. Golden food photographs best in daylight.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make papad in an air fryer?

Yes. It takes 1–2 minutes at 180 °C. Always weigh it down with a rack, because light papad can lift into the heating element.

Do viral air fryer recipes really work?

Many do, but some clips skip steps such as drying ingredients, using a thick coating or cooking in a single layer. The recipes above include those details.
