5 High-Protein Paneer Snacks in the Air Fryer

Paneer is one of the easiest ways to add protein to a vegetarian diet: roughly 18–20 g of protein per 100 g, depending on the brand and fat content. The air fryer turns it into crisp, satisfying snacks with a teaspoon of oil. Here are five high-protein paneer snacks, each ready in about 15 minutes.

1. Pepper-jeera paneer bites

The simplest one. Cut 200 g paneer into 2 cm cubes. Toss with 1 tsp oil, ½ tsp crushed black pepper, ½ tsp roasted cumin powder, ¼ tsp chaat masala and salt. Air fry at 200 °C (400 °F) for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden at the edges. Squeeze lemon over and eat warm.

2. Paneer tikka

Hung curd in the marinade adds extra protein. Full recipe: air fryer paneer tikka.

3. Paneer-besan chilla rolls

  1. Make 2 thin besan chillas on a tawa (besan, water, ajwain, salt).
  2. Mix 100 g crumbled paneer with chopped onion, capsicum, coriander, chilli and chaat masala.
  3. Fill the chillas, roll tightly and brush with a few drops of oil.
  4. Air fry at 180 °C (350 °F) for 6–8 minutes until crisp. Slice into pinwheels.

4. Crispy paneer popcorn

Air fry roasted chickpeas and the pepper-jeera paneer bites above. Toss with onion, tomato, cucumber, green chutney, chaat masala and lemon. Paneer and chickpeas together make a filling post-workout bowl.

Tips for soft, not rubbery, paneer

  • Don’t overcook. Take it out as soon as the edges turn golden.
  • Firm paneer? Soak cubes in hot salted water for 10 minutes before seasoning.
  • Eat warm. Air-fried paneer firms up as it cools.
